Chain & Sprockets

Plain explanation

The chain and sprockets transfer power from the gearbox to the rear wheel — they need regular cleaning, lubrication, and tension checks.

Technical

Sealed O-ring or standard roller chain running on hardened steel front (countershaft) and rear (wheel) sprockets. Slack adjusted via rear axle adjusters.

Function & location

Final drive power transfer from gearbox output to rear wheel.

Left side — chain runs from front sprocket (engine) to rear sprocket (wheel hub).

Common wear & symptoms

• Chain elongation
• Sprocket tooth hooking
• Dry or rusty links
• Worn O-rings on sealed chain

• Chain slap
• Whining under load
• Notchy free movement
• Visible tight/loose spots

Maintenance notes

• Clean and lube regularly
• Check slack at tightest point
• Align rear wheel when adjusting
• Replace chain and both sprockets as a set when worn
