Front Brake

Plain explanation

Your primary stopping power — hand lever operates a hydraulic caliper that clamps a disc on the front wheel.

Technical

Hydraulic disc brake: master cylinder at lever, hose to caliper, pistons clamp floating or fixed caliper on rotor. ABS modulator may be present on some market specs.

Function & location

Convert hand lever force into friction braking at the front wheel.

Right side of front wheel — caliper straddles brake disc.

Common wear & symptoms

• Pad material thinning
• Disc scoring or lip
• Fluid age absorption
• Hose cracking

• Squeal or grind
• Spongy lever
• Pull to one side under braking
• Warning light (ABS)

Maintenance notes

• Inspect pad thickness regularly
• Check fluid level and condition
• Bed in new pads properly
